Local Motion

“Local Motion” — Stainless Steel Sculpture Proposal

Concept Overview

School of Motion is an immersive stainless steel installation that captures the fluid harmony of life beneath the surface. Composed of dozens of hand-formed 3 dimensional abstract fish shapes suspended in three-dimensional space, the piece celebrates rhythm, unity, and flow, a dance of form and light frozen in mid-motion.

Design & Material

Each fish form is sculpted by hand from brushed stainless steel, ensuring that no two are identical. Mounted on slender rods of varying lengths, they hover above a clean, minimalist base evoking the sensation of a shimmering school gliding effortlessly through open water. As sunlight moves across the piece, its reflective surfaces create a play of shadows and highlights, transforming throughout the day.

Spatial Presence

The installation’s layered arrangement gives it a dynamic three-dimensional presence from every angle. Viewers are invited to walk around and through the visual “current,” experiencing shifting perspectives much like watching a living school of fish change direction in perfect harmony.

Artistic Statement

This sculpture speaks to themes of collective movement, freedom, and interconnection, a metaphor for community, adaptation, and the unseen forces that guide us. Whether placed in a coastal park, public plaza, or private collection, School of Motion becomes a tranquil yet powerful reminder of balance and cooperation in nature.
